Dr Eng. Goriwondo is an experienced business and leadership executive with over 28 years of working experience in industry and academia. He is a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe (ECZ), holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), a Master of Science degree in Manufacturing Systems & Operations Management, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business Administration focusing on World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles.
He is currently the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Innovation and Business Development at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST). Prior to joining NUST in 2006, he held several technical, engineering, operational and strategic leadership positions at BP and Shell Marketing Services, as well as being Production Manager at Turnall Fibre Cement.
Dr Eng. Goriwondo has worked on several projects involving the design and implementation of community projects. His work with Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) has seen SMEs and Government policy benefiting from this important economic activity. Dr Eng. Goriwondo is an accomplished researcher, publisher, and a business, engineering & management consultant.
He is a member of the Institute of Directors Zimbabwe (IoDZ), and a Fellow and Board member of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers (ZIE). He has won prestigious national and international awards such as the K.G Stevens Awards and the Global Engineering Education Award for his work on Project Management and Engineering Education respectively.
Dr Eng. Goriwondo sits on the Advisory Committee on technical issues for ZISCOSTEEL, is a Director and entrepreneur at Synergia Engineers (Pvt) LTD. In 2022, he was appointed as the Country Focal Point (CFP) person representing Zimbabwe on the Strengthening Research and Innovation Management (SRIM II) project in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC). He is also the Zimbabwe Country Representative on the Southern Africa Research and Innovation Management Association (SARIMA).

Dr. Eng. Tammy is a holder of a PhD in Project Management (UP2016), Certificate in Marketing (IMM-SA 2011), Masters in Manufacturing Systems and Operations Management (UZ-2010), Galileo Systems Certificate (GZ-2008), Leadership Development (2008 – Celebration International College), Technical Support Certificate (ArcGIS-UZ-2007), Diploma in Mining Engineering (ZSoM-1997), Investment in Excellence (2006 – The Pacific Institute (TPI)), and a BSc Degree in Mechanical Engineering (UZ-1994).
Dr. Tammy is a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe (ECZ) and a Fellow of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers. She is the incoming Senior Deputy President Elect, and the current Vice President responsible for coordinating areas ensuring that the value of the Institution to its membership is visible and tangible.
She has led and continues to lead the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers Conference Planning Committee as Chair for three consecutive years, organizing successful local and international conferences in partnership with local and international organizations such as UNESCO for robotics training, WFEO, AAP, and CECB, among others, to promote the engineering profession locally, regionally, and internationally.
Besides engineering-related work, Dr. Tammy has also served as the past Chair of the Malaysia-Zimbabwe Business Network and currently sits on the CMED Board as Chairman, the advisory board of NUST IME Department, and the advisory board of Hope for Her Global International (STEM).
She has served for more than 15 years as the Factory and Production Manager for Gang Nail Zimbabwe, previously Mitek Zimbabwe, specializing in sheet metal forming. She has vast experience in engineering design, production planning and control, maintenance management, and project management.
Dr. Tammy has been recognized in various categories due to her exceptional service. She was awarded the Young Businesswoman of the Year (1999), BID Business Award (2000), WECA/ZNCC Nominee (2014), Board Chairman of the Year 2021 – Gold Winner in the Women’s Category (MEGAFEST Business Awards), Outstanding Committee Chairman – Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers Conference Committee (2022), and was recently awarded Platinum Winner as Outstanding Woman in Engineering of the Year 2022, with special recognition for a pleasant approach to business style and leadership (MEGAFEST Women’s Awards).
Dr. Tammy has led various committees of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers, as she believes in growth through service. She served as the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers Mashonaland Area Secretary and its representative on the Student Paperette Competitions (UZ) Committee.
Dr. Tammy has been invited to give talks at various conferences and seminars related to engineering education and the profession. She is also committed to promoting STEM subjects to female students and has been actively engaged with ZIE WIE-supported activities.
She is passionate about education and professional development. She hopes to promote engineering internationally and encourage more women into STEM-based careers.

Eng. Mavellas Sibanda (CEng) is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and Manufacturing Engineer with over 32 years of extensive experience in the manufacturing sector, where he has held various positions including Mechanical Engineer, Engineering Manager, General Manager, Operations Director, and Non-Executive Director of ZSE-listed companies.
He is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE UK), a Fellow of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers (ZIE), a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe (ECZ), and an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators (ICSAZ).
Eng. Sibanda holds a BSc (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, an MEng in Manufacturing Systems and Operations Management, an MBA, a PhD in Business Administration, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Data Science and Machine Learning.

Eng. Fred Mukonoweshuro (MSc, BSc, CEng, MICE, MZWIE, MCIWEM, MAPM) is a highly skilled and experienced professional Civil Engineer with a background in project management and a proven track record of delivering successful projects. He has over 22 years of experience working on a wide range of utilities, primarily in the water sector, as well as civil engineering and construction projects across the United Kingdom and Africa.
Fred has worked across the full project life cycle, from needs assessment and project initiation through concept development, construction completion, and sustainable whole-life performance. His project delivery and solution development approach is centered on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Zimbabwe in 2000 and a Master’s Degree in Water and Environmental Engineering from the University of Bradford, UK. In addition, he completed a Master of Studies in Interdisciplinary Design for the Built Environment (IDBE) at the University of Cambridge between 2011 and 2013.
Fred is a Chartered Engineer with the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers (MZWIE), the Institution of Civil Engineers (MICE), and the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (MCIWEM). He is also a Corporate Member of the Association of Project Management (MAPM).
His technical and project management expertise includes business case development, design, procurement, contract administration, testing, commissioning, handover and decommissioning, programme and portfolio management, complex stakeholder management, asset management, and technical due diligence.
Among his career highlights are leading roles on major projects such as the Thames Tideway Tunnel and the Heathrow Expansion Programme. On both projects, Fred served as the Water Lead, responsible and accountable for delivering key outputs that supported overall project success.
In his current role as Water Business Leader at a well-known international engineering consulting firm, Fred oversees the development and delivery of water utility projects and programmes for clients including private utility companies, regulators, public authorities, contractors, and infrastructure providers. He is an innovative problem solver dedicated to delivering high-quality projects that exceed client expectations while supporting the achievement of the SDGs.
Fred is the Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers (ZIE) UK Branch, which represents more than 200 Zimbabwean-educated engineers based in the UK and Europe. During his tenure, he jointly hosted a successful Zimbabwe Investment Conference with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in London.
He is also active in the major projects sector and currently serves as a Programme Committee Member of the UK Major Projects Association (MPA). Within the water industry, he holds the position of Senior Vice Chairperson of the CIWEM London Metropolitan Branch.
Fred is the current ICE Representative for Zimbabwe and an ICE Mentor. In recognition of his contribution to the engineering profession, he received the SKF Award from the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers in 2011.

Eng. Chamu Mhuka is a Fellow of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers (ZIE) and a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe (ECZ). He is also a Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia, a Gazetted Civil Engineer for Dams in Zimbabwe, and a Certified Leadership Coach.
Over the years, Chamu has been an active member of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers and has held various leadership positions within the institution, including serving as Chairman of the Mashonaland Area from 2011 to 2016. Between 2019 and 2021, he was a Council Member of the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe (ECZ), where he served on the Technical Committee as well as the Finance and Administration Committee.
His professional career began in Government in 1985 within the Designs Division of the then Ministry of Energy and Water Resources Development. He later worked briefly for the City of Harare before moving into the private sector in 1991, joining Hart Howard Humphreys Consulting Engineers (later known as Hart Frost Consulting Engineers), where he spent ten years.
In 2002, Chamu joined Arup Zimbabwe (then Ove Arup & Partners), progressing through the ranks from Engineer to Associate and later Associate Director. He held this position until 2019, when he briefly left to pursue other interests. In 2020, he rejoined Arup as a Director, a position he currently holds.
Chamu’s professional experience spans the design and construction supervision of major water infrastructure projects, including dams, canals, irrigation schemes, and urban infrastructure. He has played key roles in several landmark projects, notably Manyuchi Dam and the Hippo Valley-owned Mteri Dam and Canal System, among many others.
While much of his work has been based in Zimbabwe, Chamu has also contributed to projects across the region, including in Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Uganda. His experience includes projects funded by governments, private entities, and bilateral development agreements.
Between 2009 and 2012, Chamu served on a Ministerial Task Force established to advise the Minister of Water Development. In 2014, he was part of a team of experts seconded by the Zimbabwe Commission on Large Dams (ZIMCOLD) to conduct an independent assessment of flood-induced damage at the under-construction Tugwi-Mukosi Dam.
Chamu is married to Sharon and is the father of three sons and one daughter. He is devoted to his family and strives to maintain a balance between professional commitments and family life. Outside of engineering, he is a passionate follower of football, particularly local leagues and the English Premier League. More recently, he has developed an interest in small-scale farming, focusing on horticulture and small livestock production.
Dr Eng. Sanzan Diarra

Dr S. Diarra, the current CEO of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers, is a trained Civil/Structural Engineer and Academic with over 35 years’ experience.
He has lectured at the University of Zimbabwe, NUST, Harare Poly and Bulawayo Poly. He has worked for the United Nations in more than 30 countries and is a retained International Consultant with the Organisation.
He is the winner of the Megafest Business Awards: Megafest CEO of the Year 2016 and a recipient of the African Leadership Legend Award.
Dr Diarra sits on several boards, notably the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA), the Engineering Accreditation Board of Zimbabwe, and is the Past Chairman of the Institute of Directors of Zimbabwe (IoDZ), among others.
He has been a member of the Main Committee for Research and Intellectual Output – Science, Engineering & Technology (RIO-SET) under the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, and Chairman of the RIO-SET Adjudication Committee for project evaluation, patenting, escalation, commercialization and entrepreneurship.
Dr Diarra is a practitioner of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), a qualified Arbitrator and Mediator. He is a registered professional for Dispute Avoidance Boards (DAB) with the Dispute Resolution Board Foundation (DRBF), a USA-based dispute resolution body in the infrastructure development sector. He is also registered with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in the UK, the Southern Africa Association of Arbitrators, South Africa, and the Harare Commercial Arbitration Centre.
He is a Certified Mediator through the London School of Mediation and the Southern Africa Association of Arbitrators.
Dr Diarra is a member of the Committee on Anti-Corruption of the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO), a Paris-based international organisation.
He also serves as the Project Manager for the Zimbabwe Infrastructure Report Cards, commenced in 2021.
Dr Eng. Farai Mavhiya-Bhiza

Eng. Farai Mavhiya-Bhiza is a holder of a Bachelor of Technology (Honours) Degree in Electrical Engineering, attained in 1994 from the University of Zimbabwe, and an ACCA Certified Diploma in Accounting and Finance (2002). In addition to her engineering qualifications, she is a certified Quality Assurance Lead Auditor (ISO 9001:2015).
She is a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe (ECZ), the regulatory body governing the engineering profession in Zimbabwe, where she previously served as Chairperson. Eng. Farai is a Fellow of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers (ZIE) and the incoming President of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers. She is also the outgoing Chairperson of Women in Engineering, a division of ZIE established to improve the visibility of women in engineering, innovation, science, and technology.
Eng. Farai has served on the boards of several key institutions, including ZESA Holdings as a Non-Executive Director and the Higher Education Examinations Council (HEXCO). She currently serves as Deputy Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) Board and Chairperson of the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) Board.
She served for more than a decade as an Associate Director at Arup Zimbabwe Pvt Ltd, a consulting engineering and planning firm specializing in the built environment. Eng. Farai is currently the Managing Director of Chisipo Consultants and has more than twenty-eight years of experience in building services engineering.
Her professional experience spans a wide range of residential, industrial, commercial, and institutional projects. She has worked on projects in several countries, including Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), Botswana, Mauritius, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Eng. Farai is a member of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) Standing Committees on Women in Engineering and Engineering and Environment. She is also a member of Professional Women Executives in Business (PROWEB).

Eng. Mudhindi is a Civil Engineer, currently serving as the Department Chairman and Lecturer within the Civil and Water Engineering Department at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Bulawayo. He is presently undertaking doctoral studies in Water Engineering, underscoring his commitment to advanced academic pursuit and research in the field.
His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree in Civil and Water Engineering from NUST, a Master of Science in Sanitation and Wastewater Management from the University of Zimbabwe (UZ), and a Master of Science in Construction Project Management, also from NUST. Further complementing his lecturing expertise, he possesses a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher and Tertiary Education. Eng. Mudhindi is a professionally registered and recognized engineer, holding Corporate Membership with the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers (ZIE) and is registered with the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe (ECZ). His extensive professional experience spans pivotal roles across various prominent organizations, including Carpe Diem School of Engineering, Chisipo Consultants , Technocivil Pvt Ltd, Hydrabuilt Pvt Ltd, Urban Structures Construction Group (South Africa), and encompasses valuable contributions at the Department of Roads and Mannick Holdings (South Africa).
Beyond his core university responsibilities, Eng. Mudhindi is an active participant in the broader engineering community. He serves as a visiting lecturer in the Department of Civil and Construction Engineering at the University of Zimbabwe and facilitates Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses in construction project management for various construction companies across Zimbabwe. His dedication to professional institutions is further evidenced by his considerable tenure in the Matabeleland Area Chapter Executive, where he is an active member. He has also contributed his expertise to various water
committees at both local and regional levels, and is a member of the International Water Association and WaterNet. Currently, he holds a pivotal leadership role as the Universities Lead in the National Engineering Students Awards in Research and Innovation (NESARI).
He is also a Patron of NUST Toastmasters and the Society of Civil Engineers. Notably, he previously served as an elected ZIE Board Member, representing all engineering students in Zimbabwe. Demonstrating a notable background in program coordination and academic leadership, Eng. Mudhindi previously served as the coordinator for the MSc program in the Department of Construction Economics and Management within NUST's Faculty of the Built
Environment, prior to assuming his current chairman role. Furthermore, he plays a critical coordinating role in several collaborative academic programs, including the B.Tech in Water Resources Engineering (NUST in collaboration with Bulawayo Polytechnic), the B.Tech in Construction Engineering (NUST in collaboration with Mutare Polytechnic), and the Postgraduate Diploma in Water Supply and Sanitation (NUST in collaboration with the Institute of Water and Sanitation Development - IWSD).

Eng. Lucky Khumalo is a seasoned Professional Engineer with a passion for driving innovation and excellence in the engineering sector. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering Honours degree in Electronic Engineering and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST).
He is a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe (ECZ) and a Member of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers (ZIE). Beyond his technical expertise, Eng. Khumalo is deeply committed to professional growth and industry collaboration, holding memberships with Engineers Australia and the Institute of IT Professionals South Africa (IITPSA). His extensive exposure to regional best practices equips him with the insights needed
to drive innovation and industry transformation. In recognition of his leadership, he was appointed as a ZIE Board member effective July 1,
2025 until March 31, 2027.
Currently, he works as a Transmission Network Specialist Engineer at NetOne, one of Zimbabwe’s leading mobile network operators, bringing over eight years of experience in Telecommunications. In this role, Eng. Khumalo oversees the performance of national transmission networks, contributes to key infrastructure upgrade projects, and mentors’ young engineers to uphold professional standards and drive technical excellence. Expanding his impact beyond telecommunications, Eng. Khumalo serves as a Non-Executive Director at Greentech, a company pioneering sustainable solutions in waste management and recycling. He is also the Co-founder and Non-Executive Director of Unidev Engineering, an enterprise with interests in Electrical, and Electronics engineering solutions demonstrating his versatility and entrepreneurial leadership across sectors.

Dr. Eng. Edmund Shingirayi Maputi is Dean in the School of Engineering & Technology at Harare Institute of Technology.
Edmund began his engineering career as a Mechanical Apprentice with Delta Beverages. He later joined HIT as a student from 2007 to 2011 and graduated with notable awards in the Capstone Design Project.
He joined Dosbai Investments (FMCG) as a Maintenance Engineer from 2011 to 2012, where he led the improvement of machine availability by enhancing maintenance procedures, including SOPs to identify whether preventive, planned, or corrective maintenance was required.
In 2012, he joined HIT as a Teaching Assistant and was awarded the Master of Technology Fellowship to study Engineering Design in Hyderabad, India, from 2012 to 2014. Upon his return, he was appointed a Full Lecturer in the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department.
In 2016, he began studying for a PhD in Engineering with Amity University in Haryana, India. His PhD research focused on applying advanced computation and algorithms to improve engineering designs, and he was awarded the PhD in 2021.
He has led groundbreaking research and innovation projects in medical devices, agricultural mechanization, and industrial manufacturing. He has published several articles and registered patents, industrial designs, and utility models.
He leads the Engineering Design (EngDes) Lab, where his research focuses on Product Development, Data-Driven Engineering Design, and Computational Engineering Design.
Edmund also leads an engineering design consulting firm and collaborates with various engineering companies on mechanical and hydraulic engineering designs.
Edmund is also an active Christian and believes in God, our Creator. He is married to Bernadette, an Industrial Chemist, and they are blessed with three sons: Edmund, Nathaniel, and Elon.

Prof. Tawanda Mushiri is the Executive Director – Technical for SIRDC Zimbabwe managing 12 institutes as from 1 March 2024. His key roles at SIRDC are: Overseeing the general operations of the Institutes, Overseeing professional development of Scientists, Overseeing the management of projects through the Stage Gate business model, Overseeing the protection and management of the Centre’s Intellectual Property Assets, Providing leadership in project management and marketing of SIRDC to stakeholders. His research areas are Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Biomedical Engineering. He has developed a patent for a Robotic First Aid (RFA) system to reduce Road Traffic Accidents (RTA). He has managed to do projects and grants up to USD$3,5m. Before joining SIRDC, Tawanda was an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment (FEBE) and Biomedical Informatics and Biomedical Engineering (BIBE) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) at the University of Zimbabwe. He has supervised projects for university students as follows; undergraduate, master’s, MPhil’s and PhD
students. He has published 5 books, 15 chapters in a book, a number of journals and conference papers in highly accredited publishers. He started to work at University of Zimbabwe on 13 February 2013 until 29 February 2024 when he left for SIRDC coming from Chinhoyi University of Technology where he joined on 11 October 2011as a Teaching Graduate Assistant in the Mechatronics Department, Faculty of Engineering. The first job for Tawanda was a Graduate Trainee Mechanical Engineer at the then National Oil and Infrastructure Company (NOCZIM) now termed NOIC (National Oil and Infrastructure
Company).
Tawanda has worked on different engineering projects at University of Zimbabwe which include Vehicle Number Plates development, Edible Oil extraction, Feed plant design, Bakery and Sanitiser design. He is a Corporate Member of the Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers (ZIE) and a Professional Engineer under the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe (ECZ). In the Global world, Tawanda has supervised FIRST GLOBAL students for Robotics club, was a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Quality and Operations Management from 1 November 2017 – 31 October 2020 at UJ, has been a reviewer of journals and
conferences in the academic world and an external reviewer of MPhils and DPhils in different universities. He has been an External Examiner for National University of Science and Technology (NUST) ZW and Harare Institute of Technology (HIT). Tawanda Mushiri is a Senior Research Associate Research Fellow (SRARF) in the Faculty of Health Sciences, Biomedical Engineering and Healthcare Technology (BEAHT) Research Centre at UJ. He was a consultant Biomedical Engineer with Global Health from April 2020 to December 2023 working with medical equipment for Nyadire, Mutambara and Old Mutare Hospital in maintenance issues as well as procuring new equipment.
